Entered Confederate service as a Private in Co. G,. N.C. Infantry May 15, 1862 as a volunteer. Appears as  3rd Sergeant on Company Muster Roll Jan, 1863. Wounded in the abdomen at Gettysburg, Pa. July 1, 1863. Admitted to General Hospital No. 9 on May 25, 1864. Captured near Petersburg and appears on roll of Prisoners of War at Point Lookout, Md.  on March 25, 1865. Released from Point Lookout, MD om June 28, 1865. E. J. Jackson died Feb 7, 1921 in Maury County, TN.
