Enlisted March 1st, 1862 in Clinton, Jones County, Georgia.  He served in the Army of Northern Virginia’s Second Corps until his capture on May 6th, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness.  He was sent to Fort Delaware, Delaware where he remained as a POW until March 7th, 1865 when he was selected for a  “humanitarian exchange” of sick and debilitated prisoners from Fort Delaware.
