Not much is known about Henry Ballard, except that he was an engineer before the Civil War, and a soldier in the Confederate Army, Company F, 2nd Virginia Cavalry, Fitzhugh´s Regiment, Lee Div., under the commands of General J.E.B. Stuart, Colonel Thomas Munford, and Captain William Graves. Prior to the war, Mr. Ballard had been an engineer, and somewhat well to do. The war destroyed his fortune. Henry had a brother who was also a soldier for the Confederacy, and who was killed in action. His daughter, Ella Ballard Corr, was a founding member of UDC in central Oklahoma. As late as 2018, Ella’s grave still has a UDC marker in Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond Oklahoma. After the war, Henry and his eldest son went out-west to seek their fortune.
