Jesse Calton Coffey was born 21 Apr 1827 In Burke County, North Carolina To Rev. Reuben and Rachel Hayes Coffey.  By The outbreak of the Civil war he was married with seven children and living in Haywood County, North Carolina.  On 17 Aug 1861 At the age of 34 he enlisted in Company E of the 29th North Carolina Infantry In Haywood County, North Carolina. Records indicate that he served until the end of the war as a Drummer. Jesse Calton lived the remainder of his life in the North Carolina mountains where he died in Watauga County, North Carolina on 28 Apr 1904 at the age of 77.  He is buried beside his wife in the Middle Fork Baptist Church Cemetery located at the Tweetsie Railroad Amusement park in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
