When Edward Ransom Lesesne was born on July 12, 1840, his father, Francis James Lesesne, was 25 and his mother, Amarintha Nelson Plowden, was 22. He had two sons and two daughters with Elizabeth Daniels between 1867 and 1896. He died on September 10, 1910, at the age of 70, and was buried in Greeleyville, South Carolina at Mount Hope Cemetery.

He served in the Eutaw Regiment which was the 25th SC Infantry in Company K and was paroled on the 26th of April 1865 at the rank of Captain.
