When Andrew Quarles Green was born on March 17, 1817, in Edgefield, South Carolina, his father, John, was 22 and his mother, Mary Jane Hammond Green, was 21. He married Louise Cox and they had one daughter together. He also had three sons and ten daughters from another relationship. He died on December 26, 1903, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, having lived a long life of 86 years, and was buried in Woodruff, South Carolina.
Andrew Q Green was a Confederate soldier. He was enlisted November 20, 1862, in Columbia, South Carolina, by Capt. Gresham for 90 days. The muster roll of December 4, 1862, to Jan 11, 1863, states that he was absent without leave. On January 16, 1863, he was appointed Corporal. He was a member of Company D, 7th Regiment, South Carolina Reserves.
