Charles Antoine Mangin Sr was born nov. 28, 1822  in Remiremont, Departement des Vosges, Lorraine, France ,he arrived in New York on sept. 17,1833 and then made is home in New Orleans, LA. After the war between the states broke out he volunteered  with  company 2, independent french volunteers ,1st division  and became a 2nd Lieutenant. He survived the war and returned back to New Orleans where he died on 20 May 1869 and is buried in St. Louis #1 cemetery not far from the French Quarter.
