George Anderson Rice was born on October 26, 1831, in Newnan, Coweta Co., Georgia, the son of John L. Rice and his first wife Elizabeth Catherine Wright. Later moved with his family to Randolph Co., Alabama, where he was living at the time he enlisted in the Confederate Army. Married Mary Ann Mote in 1856. They later moved to Winston Co., Alabama, where they spent the remaining years of their life. George Anderson Rice died on August 10, 1916, and is buried at Blue Springs Cemetery in the Bankhead National Forest, in Winston Co., Alabama.
