William “Billy” Bolton was born around 1827 in North Carolina. Married Rebecca Boheler Sept 16, 1852, in Rutherford County, NC. Mustered into service with the SC 5th Regiment Company G on May 13, 1862.  Appears on a list of casualties in Bratton’s Brigade on May 4, 1864. Captured in Spotsylvania, VA on May 13, 1864, and transferred to Fort Delaware Prison. Paroled on June 8, 1865. Returned to Rutherford County, NC, and had 9 children. Buried at Providence United Methodist Church Forest City, NC.
